Turn your speakers up! ;)

This is an excerpt from a performance made in part to demonstrate the effect of noise pollution from opencast mining and in part to demonstrate the art heritage of the Vevring community which is about to be destroyed by the mining project (www.bygdasframtid.com). The instruments are part of "Desibel", an exhibit made for the 30th anniversary of the Vevring Art Exhibition (www.vevringutstillinga.no), created by Geir Hjetland. The composition is by Maia Ratkje.

This is a classic!
I was sure that it was already posted on the blog, but I can seem to find it anymore. So here it is, the www.9-eyes.com project. Last weekend I was on the Amsterdam Art Book Fair and saw the publication Jon Rafman made about it. It shows images found on Google Maps. But they are quite bizarre. Cars off the road in a creek. An alien ;). Houses on fire. People lying in the trunk of a car. People walking with guns. Check out the website and be amazed.

Skryf, new version

This is the new version of 'Skryf'. An interactive mobile device which writes letters (word/sentences) with sand. Dutch artist Gijs van Bon made it and during special events people can say what they want to write down on the ground with the sand. The machine protects the letters when it's making it. But when it continues its ride to write on the letters will become less readable when the wind blows the sand gently away.

I think it's a brilliant device; a good way of interaction and showing how fragile everything is.

Google Maps Bridges

Maybe you've seen it already, but this is one of the really nice projects by Clement Valla. He searched on Google Maps for bridges and found these beautiful glitches. Landscapes with bridges that disappear half the way or transform in impossible shapes. Have a look at the Bridges project or his website for other projects such as the Seed drawings.

Artist's statement:
My work focuses on socio-technical systems that raise a number of interesting questions about authorship and human/computer relationships. I explore digital technologies that are not simply new tools to create and distribute copies of things but that also enable new social relationships through which people produce multiples. I treat existing artifacts, existing site conditions, market relationships, or networked and collaborative systems as programmable systems, using simple algorithmic methods: copying, repetition, iteration. When my programs run their course, inherent contradictions and absurd situations result from the very structure of the system itself, producing unfamiliar artifacts and juxtapositions.
Like an anamorphic projection, my programs produce distortions that reveal their own underlying logic, but also point to the system as it functions when we fail to notice it- when it works conventionally.

Origin of the Beginning

Ron Mandos Amsterdam is excited to announce the latest solo exhibition of Levi van Veluw. We warmly welcome you to join us at the opening reception of this eagerly anticipated show on Saturday the 21st of May from 5 to 7 pm, at which the artist
will be present.

Levi van Veluw will showcase new work from a series of new installations, photographs and videos in which he draws from his own childhood memories to thematically and narratively develop his own brand of self-portraiture.

The artist has created 3 “rooms” covered with more then 30.000 wooden blocks, balls and slats respectively. Each “room” is executed as a life-size installation (4m x 2.5m x 2.5m) and will be presented at the gallery together with photographs and videos.

Portrayed in one piece is a desk, a table lamp, a bookcase. The edge of the table is burned by Levi van Veluw as he had an obsession for fire. All of these objects including every inch of the floor, walls and ceiling is covered in the same material: 14.000 16 cm2 dark brown wooden blocks. The blocks are made by the artist and glued on the wall one by one. The works suggest a narrative world behind the abstract portraits.

And there it is...our new website. In 2007 our magazine O.K. Periodicals was launched because of the big succes of the O.K. Blog ....but after a few years we noticed that the O.K. Blog and O.K. Periodicals where growing apart. Now we combined the two. O.K. Periodicals is the overall name which we devide in the magazine (the old O.K. Periodicals) and I Wish I'd Made That (the old O.K. Blog). With new editors and new features we are going to make a new an fresh start.

In 1993, a convicted murderer was executed. His body was given to science, segmented, and photographed for research. Croix and Frank used that footage to create these 7 photographs. An animation of the 1871 slices was played fullscreen on a computer, which was moved around by an assistant while being photographed in a dark environment. The resulting images are long-exposure “light paintings†of the entire cadaver. Stunning work! Prints are for sale for $700 and all proceeds benefit Amnesty International. ~ via todayandtomorrow

The Order of Volume I

Leanne Eisen

Makes me think of the experiments we did some years ago. Beautiful, unforeseen images created by Leanne Eisen.

"Scan began as a creative diversion, but has since become a full-on fixation. I find objects with an interesting combination of surface characteristics, and create compositions by moving them over my scanner bed . Much like darkroom experimentation using burning and dodging, or the placement of objects directly onto the photographic paper's surface to create photograms, each exposure represents a choreographed movement, a moment in time captured on a two-dimensional surface. By using trial and error, I reintroduce the possibility of happy accidents into the sterile and precise process of digital imaging. I have worked my way through a collection of scannable curios, from paper grids and greyscales to lights and reflective materials. I am now focusing on CD's and DVD's, thereby introducing a digital storage medium back into the scanning process.
Through this exercise, I've learned to exploit limitations of in order to introduce intentional glitches."

The Bonsai Project

The Bonsai Project
Sjoerd Knibbeler / Rob Wetzer
Opening: zaterdag 12 maart 2011 om 17:00 uur
Expositie t/m 9 april 2011
