A co-worker attended me to this blog post by Christophe Courtois about something we all kinda know already: movie posters are highly formulaic, they all look alike. Still, seeing them categorized like he did sort of really hammers the fact down - and results in interesting collages! Also, check out the video blog below it reminded me of. It's somewhat older and talks about the use of the Trajan font in poster designs.

My co-worker walked into the office with a copy of this HD movie the other day and I think we spent a good ten minutes watching it with jaws ajar before we remembered we had to get back to work. Pretty much everything about this snowboard movie is INSANE; the landscapes, the shots, but particularly the stunts (watching them I was feeling fake G-forces pulling on my stomach). No guts, no glory, I guess.
Watch the trailer here, but I definitely recommend you to watch the whole thing in HD on the biggest screen you can possibly find.

Recent graduate of the Design Academy in Eindhoven Charlotte Porskamp presented this film project at the Dutch Design Week a few days ago. Though many a person has pointed out the various cons of putting one's private life online via Facebook, Charlotte's 'Face your Facebook' is not one such wagging finger. In her film she does take the awkward, the narcistic and the inappropriate to the extreme, but in a lighthearted and witty way that brings a smile to my face.

I recently bought an issue of Wolphin, a DVD magazine. It was a 'Best of' issue and this documentary was on the disc.
It's probably the best 25 minutes you should spend on watching/surfing the internet today!
it is about a heavy metal band formed by 10-yeard old kids. They're crap ofcourse, but they think they are good. And especially the dad (of the singer) is extremely... extreme. They are rehearsing for their first perormance for '2000' people. Only if they knew...
A must-watch! They are serious about it!

"We just returned from Los Angeles shooting a documentary/ music video for Dutch indie band ‘TIKA’. We battled the crazy heat that kept this city in a ferm grip, and followed actor Carel Struycken (The Adams Family, Star Trek, Het Paard van Sinterklaas) on his voyage from ‘the best that civilisation has to offer’ to the wildest of nature, in the middle of Californian deserts, mountain ranges and lakes.
FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE is a documentary disguised as a music video. It’s a short documentary that is made as a music video for the Dutch indie band Tika, a combination of Moss and El Pino.
The film explores the increasing unease that many feel with modern society. We show this feeling through the eyes of ‘giant’ Carel Struycken, who rose to fame by playing iconic freaks in pop culture, like Lurch in the Adams Family and Mr. Homn in Star Trek.
The 63 year old actor has sharp observations on the way we live our lives and how we perceive one another. "
The experience of a minute is about time, how time is experienced en what time can be. Subjects are asked to sit in front of a camera and sit there for a minute. Not seeing or being told when the minute is over, they have to judge for themselves when it is over. When they feel that the time is past, a new person may sit.
This results in an abstract clock that does not show a real minute, but the subjective feeling of a minute.

This exhibition titled 'Savage Beauty' at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York just closed, and how I wished NYC was closer by so I could have seen it. Late Mr McQueen's famous creature-like clothing is visually stunning, technologically superb and conceptually sound. If you're familiar with his work (and you probably are), there's probably nothing explicitly new to see here, but it's still awesome eyecandy.
Also, do you remember that projection of Kate Moss on the catwalk?

The most recent usual unusual stuff from Banksy. Witty, funny, but at the same time sharp-tongued and sarcastic. One piece was posted next to a Bristol highway, until it was taken down by cops of the UK Highways Agency - who assure the BBC it wasn't because they felt ridiculed by the Banksy sign. Today, Buck is going to spend the afternoon with his girlfriend who's so happy to see him (she's pretty much happy always). But when Buck finds out that her father is not the tolerant and sympathetic guy he expected, the Sunday afternoon turns really bad. Really bad. Like baaaaaaad bad.
The works by Anne Wölk are like a cinematic scenery. I can't keep my eyes of the paintings and drawings. The abstractness, the details, the colours and the composition pulls you in her cosmos.

Mac 'n' Cheese is an animated short directed and created by four students at the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands. This roughly two minute animation took about five months to make, and about a bajillion peanut butter sandwiches.
Synopsis: When you find yourself running scared and running out of energy, there's only a few options left to outrun your opponent through the southern desert. Stopping at nothing, watch these two guys wear each other out and rip through boundaries hitherto unbroken. Enjoy the ride!
Pina is a tribute to German choreographer Pina Bausch, who died unexpectedly in the spring of 2009. It feels like both a dance film, a piece of fiction and a documentary at the same time. The dances express all kinds of emotion, from the depths of physical and mental pain to the most light-hearted moments of joy and humour. Visually, it is one of the most stunningly beautiful I have ever seen. Even if you're not especially into dance - I'm not -, I highly recommend that you go see it.
The people from Laan Labs recorded 3d data from the Kinect and played it back in augmented reality on the ipad using the String SDK.

We had a super releaseparty of O.K. Periodicals #6 / BORING Issue. Jaap Blonk started the night with a soundpoetry performance. After that Joost and I went up the stage to give a very boring presentation. We explained how to fill in the form to become a subscriber (hello and thanks to al new subscribers!). And we made a slide for each and every single contributor in the magazine and thanking them. Well, you had to be there in the crowded venue.
But we finished with the flipthrough video you can see here as well.
We hope you will become a subscriber too, so we can make future issues of this wonderfull magazine. It has a limited run of copies (500) and we already sent 250 to pre-orders and so.
Issue 6 is, again, the best issue so far!
Twitter is hot, youtube is cool. So what if you combine the two. A video channel fed by tweets about youtube video's. What you get is an endless stream of video's being talked about. Don't like it just skip to the next one.

Which gives a nice insight how it started and developed to become what it is today. The video interview is made by itdrewitself (which made other cool stuff as well, worth checking out)
This is such a great idea. For the new single by Steye they made a interactive video, a 360 degrees video with karaoke text if you click on the video itself. Have fun and sing-a-long. Nice music as well!
Pogo has mixed tracks from classics such as Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins, but this time around created a supertrack sampling from a larger variety of Disney movies. The result is very fresh and surprisingly modern.
